Just got home from camping and had a nice fire going every morning and evening with wood from that area. Last night while at the fire I noted someone looking out of the piece that was in the fire. o_O I tree toad? He's in the woods again.View attachment 759198
Probably an eastern American toad. They are fascinating critters. One of my kids used to keep them as pets. When I was a kid, they were often found in the same place every year, disappear in fall, then show up again in spring.

Take a wiggling insect on some forceps and dangle it in front of a toad and chances are it’ll snap it up.

How long was your exposure?
15 sec. I believe.

Planes and satellite's make longer trails most of the time. Meteorites leave a solid line unlike a plane, and Meteorites can burn up quickly leaving just a short trail.

That’s why I asked.
I‘ve observe satellites pretty often since I was young. My father was an amateur astronomer, and my siblings and I kinda followed in his footsteps. Now our kids follow in ours.

Shooting stars rarely last but the blink of an eye and move pretty rapidly. Satellites usually move pretty slow and take several minutes to cross the sky.

That’s why I’d have thought that would have been a satellite on a long exposure, as in it didn’t take up much of the sky and was much brighter than the surrounding objects in the sky, indicating to me that it was slow and bright. If it was a meteor (meteorites hit the ground), it would have had to have been extremely bright and short to show up that clearly on the photo.

Anywho, it’s a beautiful picture! We don’t get that clear of skies here anymore. Sad.

Now you'll never know if the frog would have jumped from the fire.
