My method of using the truck is effective, but I'd bet his is faster. Unfortunately, the place where I dump is on mixed asphalt/rock/dirt. Driving a rod in might be both frowned upon by the owner and difficult to remove.Another friend of mine does the same to unload roofing shingles at the dump, but he uses 2 tires instead of a pallet. His method is also to drive a steel rod in the ground to chain off that and pull the entire trailer with his truck. I should have asked how he gets the rod out of the ground, but forgot to ask.
But to remove a rod from dirt, just kick it in opposing directions a few times, wiggle, and withdraw. If it was driven at an angle away from the vehicle, as would want in tent-stake fashion, it needn't be hopelessly deep to do the job.
