Converting single HST pedal to two pedal setup

/ Converting single HST pedal to two pedal setup #11
I've got the dual pedals on my little subcompact, and have the use of the single pedal on a BX22. When shopping, I preferred the dual pedals, and did not like the feel of the single pedal.

But after 158 hours on my machine, and around 20-30 hours on the BX, I prefer the single pedal by a large margin, and find myself wishing that my machine also had the single pedal. I find my foot and calf get much less fatigued at the end of a long day on the machine with the single pedal than the dual pedals.

I'm so used to the single pedal that I don't even think about it when operating the BX23.
It seems to have become a natural movement with no jerky stops or direction changes.
I had dual pedals on my last mower and I know all to well about hitting the wrong pedal /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I hated the single pedal initially. Had the dual pedals on the little JD and that's what I was use to. Like them both equally now. The single pedal is great for backing. It will come to you over time. Been said a zillion times before, but most of us don't put our full boot print on the pedal. That's where I went wrong initially. I heal/toe the adjacent floor and the pedal. If I'm going forward the toe is on the pedal and the heal is on the deck. Vice versa.

Bugstruck and anyone else, I am not sure I followed your style of operating the pedal but I do want to learn the best way first. Forward, your heel is on the platform and your toe on the pedal. Then to backup...? I think I can use the lessons /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif.

Oldgoat if your trying to rest your whole foot on the pedal and you don't have a size 16 foot then that is why it is uncomfortable and feels weird.
You place your toe on the pedal and heel on the deck for fwd driection and heel on pedal and toe on deck for backin up.

I have only had Kubotas and I could see how a two pedals side by side system could be real interesting to get used too since the single pedal makes sense where the ft. part is fwd. and rear is back up.
There is less mental thought for direction changes and more on the work at hand.
I'm sure one can get used to either system with practice.

We also have the L3400HST!! The single pedal system is awesome. When your turned a liitle in the seat your foot is cocked sideways anyways. Your toe still catches the front and heal catches the back of the pedal because of its canted design. I really prefer it to the two pedal. Especially when your looking back or over the side while working.

I'm jumping in with everybody else on this. I *really* wanted the two pedal setup on the JD3320, but after 30 hours on my B3030 I'm very happy with the single setup, (especially when backing up and looking behind me) and would probably prefer it at this point.

I use both, I like both, I don't have a strong opinion either way. I think unless you have a leg issue that makes one or the other difficult, you will quickly learn to accomodate it. Much like one learns how to run a Bobcat skidsteer where your hands operate the hydrostatic controls and feet do the loader. I will say that the single pedal did "probably" help me out once when I had my front tires on my L48 fall through a culvert while pointed downhill. I could not keep my tractor from falling in other then instantly I hit the reverse pedal which slowed my decent giving me enough time to get my loader down and anchor me. Had it been a twin pedal, the chance of hitting just the reverse pedal probably would not have happened, I could have just as easily hit the forward pedal. It was a delicate situation. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
