Rotary Cutter Converting rotary cutter to RMM

I have a chance to buy a decent 4' rear mount finish mower with only about 10 hours use at a very reasonable price but I really would like to have a brush cutter too. I was wondering about attaching quick mount rollers and loose links to a rotary brush cutter and use that to mow grass with. It doesn't have to do a perfect job on grass (but I read other posts that say they do pretty well on grass too) but then I could easily convert it back for heavy weeds and small brush. Has anybody tried this - and do you think it would work?

I mow my road banks with a woods 60 inch brush cutter. The cutter gives a satisfactory close cut at about 3 inch. I do not have any casters attached and it does well. I do have to be careful to not scalp, but I am satisfied. I also have a 72 inch KK rear finish mower. I have put the casters on it up to the highest and mowed weeds with it and it does well. I think the weed mower would work for you, but only you can judge if the final cut meets your standards.

Lots of people use rotary mowers to do quasi-finish mowing.

You can sharpen your rotary cutter blades up a bit.. not razor sharp.. just better than the 1/8 to 1/16 flat that we leave them for brush cutting. Get some limit chains.. or the wheels.. etc. If you cut often.. and take it easy on the speed, and turning.. you should be able to produce a 'couple day old' cut look.. perhaps just a tad under what a lawnmower would provide.
