Convert side discharge mower to rear?

On my quest for mower blade questions (separate post) I started looking at land pride mowers. I noticed that their side discharge and rear discharge mowers use the same blades. Is the only difference the back end missing? I was wondering if you can close up the chute on a side discharge and open up the back to convert it to rear discharge??? I figured I'd ask before I start cutting steel.

I'm just guessing here, but I imagine that the baffling below deck is specific to whether the mower is rear or side discharge. I don't have a camera, or I'd post a picture of the underside of my rear-discharge mower. I'm sure someone will oblige.
