Continental GF 193 information

Like the title says I would like information on this engine. Thanks to Xfaxman help I found this is the engine that I cant get to start. I have rebuilt the Marvel TSX 856 carb and cleaned all the parts. Engine will start on starter fluid but coughs,spits,sputters, and backfires when sprayed with starter fluid. Plugs look dry when I pull them out. So I am assuming that it is not getting fuel. Any help would be awesome.

I have had 6 cyl. and a couple 4 cylinder Continentals, a 4 in my old Clark Forklift now.
Have you checked compression?
The 4 cyl. in my lift had a bunch of stuck valves when I got it, and not running.
With stuck valves the unbalance in the intake will make it hard to run.
To un-stick them I made a tool out of 1/4" rod, flattened one end and bent it 90*.
I then carefully put it in the spark plug hole, on top of the valve and tapped the valve closed, with plenty of spray lub.
Also NAPA is one place to look for parts, IF you have a good parts guy!

What did your rebuild consist of, and how far did you tear it down, and clean..?? If you didn't tear it down far enough, to remove the main nozzle, which is further inside the carb., beyond the main adjusting needle, that sits on a 45º angle, on the front of the bowl, I'd guess that's where the problem lies. There are little cross drilled holes in that nozzle that will plug, and not allow it to pick up fuel. If you just sprayed carb. cleaner down through that tube, that's not going to clean it.
