What's the overall feeling about this oil?

I wasn't planning on servicing my ford 660 this weekend, but finished up another project a few hours early, and I could only find rotellt t oil on the shelf ( in the weight I wanted ). The shelves were particularly bare.. just some odd weight oils, and ND's I grabbed the rotella t, and did the oil change.

I'm not a brand fanatic, and generally my older tractors get traveler brand oil, and I use supertech as a flushing oil. My newer ones get valvolene fleet rated.

The 15W-40 dino Rotella T is great for normal change intervals and warm climates. The 5W-40 synthetic (Group 3) Rotella T is even better for longer changes, higher operational temperatures and/or turbocharged diesel engines and for a wider climate scenario.

We've used Rotella for decades and haven't had any problems at all. Even up north here where it gets really cold it's not a problem starting in the winter.

Are you putting it in a PowerStroke? Shell's main thrust when the PowerStroke Fords came out was to dominate that market. It seems that they have succeeded. Just about everyone I know with a PowerStroke uses Shell Rotella. It's kind of funny; if I see a guy with a PowerStroke, I say "you use Shell Rotella, don't you". They act surprised and say, "yes, how did you know". /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Apparently it is along the same line as the Mobil Delvac from what I've read. Mobil just hasn't picked a specific "target" market like Shell did. Not that the oil is bad or anything, but ask around with people with a PowerStroke, I'd bet most of them use the Shell Rotella. Shell did an excellent job marketing a specific application. I think the Delvac has a higher TBN, which is good in diesel applications, but it also costs a little more. I don't think you'll have any problem with the Rotella unless you try for the super long drain intervals, which I personally don't believe in doing. Heck, you may turn your engine into a PowerStroke! /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

I have been using Rotella 15W-40 in my GMC turbo diesel for 150k miles and like it. I just used it in my Kubota for its first change. When I use up my stocks of oil for my gas engine vehicle I will use Rotella in it.

all posts above state it. If doing normal intervals it is fine, but then again a group 1 would also be fine if doing short drains. It comes down to pay now or later. It has a high Noack and four ball is higher then I would use but....

Dargo- Come on! Unless you have tried the oil extended drains, don't knock it...Been doing it since the old Powerchoke days, works fine.

I get VERY VERY tired of the extended blah blah oil changes when 99% of people do not get it. Technology is a beautiful thing if used. .. Better yet lets see some oils tests do say it does not work, anyone, Bueller...Bueller....

GSXR, an extended oil drain with Rotella?? I've decided to walk on the dangerous side and go 6 months and about 10k with Amsoil 5w30. You don't think I'm pushing the envelope too much do you? /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif Hey, did you use Rotella with your PowerStroke?? /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Rotella in my Powerstroke. Are you kidding. A group 3..NEVER!

I will be going over 15K miles on my Amsoil 5w30!

What would you recommend for this ail cooled engine???? Dino or synthetic???? It gets less than 10 hours of use a year and some years it gets none. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif Forgot to mention.... it is a turbo. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif
