Conquest or John Deere x540

Is the simplicity a better tractor than the JD x500 series? The Conquest with B&S 24hp, 52 deck & power steering is about $1,000 less than the JD X540. Are they equal garden tractors?

Deere shows water cooled engine, much better than air cooled. Is the conquest air or water cooled? How thick are the mow decks?

The X540 has a heavier transaxle (K66HD on the Conquest, off the top of my head, K71/K72 on the X540), liquid cooled Kawasaki engine, and larger tires than the Conquest. Simplicity calls the Conquest a yard tractor, which falls between a LT and a GT, while the X540 is a garden tractor.
