My driveway is 1/3 mile and all gravel. I share the 1st half with the neighbor and it's always getting potholes in certain area's, I think because he and his visitors drive too fast on it. We need at least an additional tri-axle this year on the shared portion. One estimate was $550 for 2A modified. No stone has been added in at least 5 years.
My portion I'm very careful about grading and snow plowing to lose as little stone as possible. It would be nice to have asphalt at the top by the house so it could be plowed better and melt out, just not sure it's worth the cost. And since I don't plan on ever moving resale doesn't matter. We don't get that much snow and could in theory get away w/o plowing at all or minimal.
