Concentric/Haldex Splitter Pump

I do a fair bit of small engine/yard & garden equipment repair.

Feller dropped off an MTD log splitter. It has a Haldex 718-04127 two stage pump direct-coupled to the bottom of a vertical shaft Briggs and Scrapiron engine.

There's oil dripping off the engine side of the pump mount. It's definitely hydraulic oil so I assume it's coming from around the pump shaft.

So, the questions are:

1. Can the pump be split and a shaft seal replaced?

2. If so, where can I find parts (I can find the pumps, but not seeing a site for parts)

3. If the seal is replaceable, how likely is the repair to last?

4. Given that drop-in replacement pumps are out there for $150 to $200-ish, is it even worth the effort to fix it?

Even at my miserly shop rate of $25/hr (I'm retired, I do it for something to do, not to make money) I can see parts and labor coming REAL close to the price of a new pump, and I wouldn't care to guarantee the repaired pump longer than it takes to get it out of my sight.

Check with Northern tools. They sell that pump as a replacement. NT usually has rebuild kits for their pumps, or at least I think Ive seen them there.

Give these guys the model number of the log splitter and they say they have the parts.

Before you order the seal, run your finger nail on the shaftseal seating area and if you find a grove, you will need a new shaft and seal.

All 2-stage splitter pumps regardless of brand, 16 gpm and under use the same 4 bolt mount and are interchangeable. An internet search will find them starting at about $100.
