compost bins

Hey folks:

This is not as nice as some of the barn and shed pic going on right now but, I thought I would post a couple of pic's of Saturday's project.

I wasn't quick enugh to snap some pic's before I took away some of the manure. This is about half of what was there.

This horse manure thingy has been an on going problem to deal with and it's getting harder and harder to find folks to take it. I've been hauling it to a guy's house for the the past couple of years and about 6 months ago he told me on the last load he has had enough. Of course this little problem helped me convence the wifey that we needed a tractor /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

So, were going to try and give this compost thingy a whirl and and spread in on the flower beds and maybe the pastures if with two horses I have that much left.

Whiskey, those are some really nice bins... There was another posting somewhere out here about 1-2 months ago with a similar (but smaller configuration). I like yours quite a bit. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Looks good. Here are mine. A little smaller, but hey, I had a smaller tractor, AND no horses. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Right now, the sames bins are being enlarged to a 4 bin setup. And I could realy use some stuff to fill it, but your a long way away, and I doupt they would let me bring it on a plane. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Thanks, I did see the post you were talking about a couple of months ago and thought I would try this now that I have a tractor with a bucket. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif The bins are 8'x8' with solid backs and the first 4 boards on the sides solid then 4" spaces on up the sides. Figured if the backs wern't soild I would be behind the bins all the time with a shovel in my hand cleaning up what I pushed through with the loader.

How are you enjoying that "new" tractor you just bought?

Hey, tell me how your bin does in the shade, I didn't know if I sould have built mine in full sun or not. Seemed like it would have been hard to keep moist if full sun so, I did the half thingy. It gets shade till about 2-3 in the afternoon and then full sun till night time.

What are you putting in yours, I can see some leaves next to it, I'll take it your mixing them in over time. Your pile looks good and black I hope I can get thoes same results

PS: That power reverser on the MF1433v sure would have been nice this weekend /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I'm liking it. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif I have not had a chance to work it yet, I still need to get a cutter, but have been running it a bit, working the bugs out, and getting some work done on it.

As for the compost. The shade works good. Only thing is while it does not dry out in the sun, it is also shelded from the rain. But it holds its own. I have a lot of leaves in it, and also scraps, and alot of coffee grounds. I have not been working it much latly, real busy, but what was in there from last year got put into my garden. I hope to get it started agean once I move into the house, and have a little more time.
