I hate to complain but prices are crazy. For some exterior work using PVC. Nice to work with but not cheap. In one spot I thought I would substitute a treated board. Got a 1x10 inchx8 foot. Actual of course 3/4x9 1/4 x8 feet. Kind of a glorified shelving board. $25 before tax.
I really do not see how some afford new house construction.

In addition wanted to put up some vinyl siding. Better quality. No instructions in the unusual window channels, none in the special corners (they go on last and not first) in the three boxes, none in the first two boxes of siding. Nothing on the boxes themselves. The fellow where I purchased it was good enough on the second day to find some instructions on the internet for the same. Followed the corner spacing. Starting putting the same up, on the third box there were instructions inside. Did not match the internet ones from the same company. Corner spacing was 1 1/8 inch different. No waste particularly as I have to cut about an inch more off but it requires taking what is already hung down to do it properly. Can't really cut it properly up with a utility knife. Lot of time wasted and frustrating to say the least.
Really can't believe no instructions included and different ones for the same product from the same company. I think I might go have a cold one or two.

PVC is by far the very best product for wet areas that cause wood to rot.

I just worked on a house for a client that had some rotten soffit and fascia boards because they where installed too close to the shingles. This is very common, and a never ending source of revenue for me. When installed, nothing should be touching the shingles. Hardie says to leave two inches between shingles and their products.

If I have to touch the shingles because the home owner insists, or it's just too ugly not too, I used solid PVC. The cost has doubled, but so far, my clients are willing to pay it to avoid having it happen again. Nothing works as good as solid PVC in wet conditions!!!

I used Hardie 1/2 inch Backer Board for the Soffit repair because of squirrels. It's the only thing that stops them other then metal.

Gutters covered up the seam on the Fascia after I painted it to match.

This house had Cedar ship lap for siding. The bottom row was totally rotten away. I replaced it with solid PVC. I had to buy three of them for this, which was expensive compared to wood, but they will never have to replace it.

Sometimes, it's best to just pay what it costs to have the very best materials. Otherwise, it will cost more in the future.

Agreed the PVC is good in wet areas. I like that it cuts and works like wood.

About a year and a half ago I helped #3 Son replace his porch deck (around 7' x 25') with PVC. The T&G material is a full 1" thick and the width of the finished top is 3-1/8". He bought it in 16' lengths and they were $75 each. We were very careful about measuring and cutting.

Nothing will change concerning inflated prices on everything (including food and fuel) until we install an administration that will address those issues competently. Until then, everything will keep right on coasting you more and more.
