There is a significant difference between my 13hp ford 1100 and my neighbours lawn boy of similar power. Am I correct in assuming that this discrepancy will be evident on smaller engines ?. I have a lister 5hp diesel and I would like to drive a hydraulic wood splitter with it. I am wondering what size pump I would use with that.

Bruce.

It should run an 8-11 gpm pump, but you'll have to increase the speed with extra gearing because most two stage pumps run at 2000-3600 rpm. From what I've heard, Lister diesels run at only 200-600 rpm.
