Compacting "gravel"/"item 4"/"road base". Rent a Roller?

I'm looking at maybe a used Wacker Neuson WP1550AW that are going for about 1200-1500.

Amazon has new ones for $2600.

Keep watching for a used compactor. They come up pretty often when someone is done with projects and gets sick of moving it around in the garage. Or when times get good, landscape companies will upgrade and smaller guys will sell the old stuff, times get bad, some guys will just unload equipment. They are simple machines and seem to take a lot of use and keep going. Just a PIA to park in a shed or garage then move it more than use it.

I got my used plate compactor for just $500, had to jump on it. 5 HP Honda motor. Weighs maybe 200 lbs, works great. I use it for all sorts of stuff.
