Compacting a driveway and mower hp?

Hey folks,
I have been on here for quite some time now and I'm up to 105 hours on the new L3400 HST with 5ftBB, LA463 loader. all the advice on here has truly helped me more than I could ever type here. So kudos to all of you!!!!

But I have a couple of questions that I hope to get some good solid answers...

In a previous thread- I wrote about a new to me finish mower. It is a united farm equipment 4ft unit. rather old- I'd say 10 years.. I got it, looked it over, all the grease fittings were full, the gear oil was clean and seems not too old.
the blades were dull, but that is fine.. 1 wheel was broke off where it connects to the pivot point. no bigger either, just a little drilling and welding.
I hooked it up and ran it a bit even with the wheel off.. Ran great..
then took it back off and put the BB back on, and back into the storage area it went-- Until today.. I was looking it over and found a nice little warning sticker that was almost worn off..
All that was visible was NOT SE ON TRACTORS OV R 30 HP
So I suspect I am not supposed to use it on any tractor over 30 HP...

now the question-- does this mean 30 hp as the tractor's HP or 30 HP as the PTO HP?
if PTO-- I am fine as the L3400 is 29 HP PTO.. but if tractor-- the gift is just not going to work..

and now for the next question...

I have a steep driveway at my new home construction site and at times I have to use the BB to fix the "spin-n-digs" Well, all those SC workers bring 2 wheel drive vehicles or just inexperience driving the hill. they can make it up the hill fine after a delivery truck goes up and packs it.
So the question is what can I pull up and down the hill to pack it? I have the tractor, a small 4WD 300CC ATV and a 4wd Dodge Durango...
something cheap would be great..

Anytime you talk horsepower on a PTO implement, they mean "PTO" horsepower, or the HP that's actually going to make it to the implement. And when an implement like a mower, or brush hog has a max HP rating like yours, usually thats what the gearbox on the mower is rated for. Typically, Heavier duty implements use tougher gear boxes. Either way, I'm sure there's a little bit of a safety factor there. I doubt a 30HP gear box will blow up if you put 33HP into it.

As far as the driveway, once you smooth it out, get a buddy with a dually pickup, and have him make a few trips up and down for you!

For the driveway...

Are you able to rent a vibatory roller or plate compactor? That would be the only option I would recomend. If your going to try a cheaper option, your best bet is to pack the entire area. While the truck driving up may give you some temp fix to the drive your most likely not going to have a long term solution, and you will be back at fixing it over and over.

Just packing where you drive leaves a small pack with loose material on both sides for the packed area to move back into. Now, pack the entire area and you have more surface area packed (locked) into it's self, that with the right material, should stay locked for a much longer period. Also, don't forget to crown and design your runoff areas, a good rain or two should give you an idea if you have good runoff.

Good Luck, while I enjoy grading my drive from time to time, I would not want to repair it as often.
