New member here first time poster, very impressed with the forums.

Looks like the New Holland boomer line all have egr valve any others? I know any tractor under 25hp doesn稚 need emissions stuff I.e. dpf or egr!
It looks like Kubota b2601, b2650 and Deere痴 2 family don稚 use them? Does Massey Ferguson 1526 have egr? it looks like Mahindra max 26 may have egr not sure? Also considering Yanmar and LS lineups but dealers are little further drive!

Thanks in advance

EGR systems should by closed off with a stainless steel spacer plate . Thermal efficiency will improve and soot production will decrease .

That's a pretty definite statement. I would like to believe that it is true, but wonder what kind of evidence you have for it?

Let me go a step farther..... I'm an experience engine guy, and I can't think of any reason why a functioning EGR valve would be an advantage to a diesel engine. IMHO, an EGR valve was always simply a political solution, trading soot reduction for NOx increase. But I don't have any empirical evidence based on testing that supports that opinon. It's just an opinion based on how I see the combustion working.

You are right so far.
But EGR is used to lower the combustion temps.

Now my opinion: if you block off EGR and don't rewrite the electronic fuel management, you're asking for an internal meltdown.

Why do you say that? Have you seen it or is it speculation? For my part, I can't convince myself which way an EGR will cause the the temperature to go. I could argue both ways.

I do know that my Interim Tier IV emissions engine runs cool compared to most engines in my experience. I've never seen the temp guage at midpoint even when revved up & working hard. But that could be due to a variety of reasons.
I do agree that it is worth carefully monitoring head temp. before and after blocking off an EGR. Good point there. I'll begin to work on doing that. Might even go to a digital temp gauge.

As near as I can tell, Interim Tier IV emissions control was accomplished by taking a proven diesel engine - which mine is on the Kubota M59 - retarding the injector timing slightly, and adding an EGR valve. It was simple to do because a lot of these older diesels that got the EGR valve treatment didn't have re-writable fuel management. Fuel delivery was controlled mechanically.

Hmm..... I wonder if an old parts book for this engine would show different fuel pump cams?
