Compact tractor with highest road speed ?

Ever driven a tractor at that speed?

Mine goes really squirreley at 15mph... bounces, feels very light on the front, requires constant steering... I'm unsure what would happen at 20mph...doubtless depends on kinds of tire, etc...

Net... I can't recommend 20mph as a planned regular thing with a tractor.

I've roaded 10 miles at close to 20mph no problem with my Kama. It's rated at 19mph. I had the FEL and box blade mounted. I think it's reasonable to road 10 miles to a food plot assuming that means just a few trips per year and it's also reasonable to consider top speed when tractor shopping if you plan to do any roading.

If you have hydrostatic steering it's a little weird. Mine will bypass if I keep any pressure on the steering wheel i.e. I have to keep slowly turning the wheel to maintain position, but the position will lock if I release pressure on the wheel.

Top speeds are listed in tractor specs as you shop around. I did a little research. Most of the tractors under 40hp top out somewhere around 15mph. For Deere you have to download the operator manual. I made one check - the 4005 is listed at 12mph. Here are some models with higher speeds.

The New Holland 4055 and 4060 top out at 18-19mph:

The Nortrac (Foton) 40hp goes almost 22. The 35hp goes 18. They probably do a lot of roading in China.

I have used all of my tractors on the road at various times but don't recommend it. Fifteen mph is fast if you hit a shadow or something larger on the road, especially considering most CUT's have a short wheelbase. The fel and implements on the rear extending past the wheels accentuate the problem.

Go slower or get a trailer is my vote and make sure you have good insurance.

My Mahindra 7520 will do 21 or so. It handles fine - loader, implement, water in the tires and all when its reasonably smooth. It is predicable at speed in turns too, but hydrostatic steering makes me real nervous at speed cuz in truth you can lose it at any time and any time would be a bad one. That and the chance of unforeseen bumps would influence my choice of speed.
