A family friend is planning to move to my neck of the woods and has made an offer on a house with about 10 acres of land. Their thought is they would like to purchase a compact tractor for all the yard work such as a CC 5000 series. The land is flat, and there is a wooden storage shed the tractor would fit into short of the (IMHO Fugly) roll-over bar clearing through the door. For this application I see no need to have that thing on the tractor. Question-- is it relatively easy to remove on the compacts?

Yes the ROPS bar can be removed. IF they decide to do this, the seat belt must be removed too.

Why any would want to remove a MAJOR safety device is unknown to me. The ROPS makes a great mounting bar for a sun shade.

If by some chance the tractor would upset, their chance of a successful injury lawsuit (and there WILL be one) will be greatly diminished if the ROPS is gone!

They may opt to make it into a folding ROPS. It would fit and the safety factor would still be there. I realize by making it into a folding unit would void any ROPS waranty, but if done correctly it would be safe. I do see many cut owners that work their units with the ROPS folded down.

Thanks for the replies, I will mention the folding option and sun shade advantage to this person- she is an older lady who has operated farm tractors before and did not think the ROPS would be necessary on the flat parcel of land.

Fordlords....I have wondered about this same issue. All these newer utility tractors seem to come with ROPS. At first glance they seem like a pain in the a --! I can see myself smashing into a low hanging tree the first day I used one.

What is your friend going to use her tractor for...mowing, loader work, pulling implements? You might have mentioned, but how many acres of land does she have to maintain?
