Ok, new in this field (CUT) and just searched all these forums by using the keyword "cultivator" and only a very few posts about the cultivator.

So, am I missing somethings? Compact tractor users aren't using cultivators much in their (small) lands? I thought such a cultivator with 5-7 points (like in attachment) could be used efficiently. What types of cultivators are you using?

What you call a cultivator is what is called a tiller in my area. Lots of people call them field cultivators. I prefer to use them and do. Most of the compact tractor people apparently use a rotary cultivator or rotary tiller. As many rocks as we have, I don't think that a rotary would be very effective here.

That appears to be a rigid shank cultivator, maybe use in row crop ??. There is also what they call a field cutivator, with what they call a "Danish Tine" coiled spring shank, that you can use for seed-bed prep or weed control. Look Buhler Manufacturing[/url] /Farm King, has pictures, and pictures of the roto-tillers mentioned ealier

Yes. as I thought.. I was missing somethings. So, I used wrong keyword when searching the forums. But I was still right about that not many CUT users are using such tillers or rigid shank cultivators or field cultivators (whatever you call.)
Thanks for answers.
Ps: "Danish Tine"? This must be also called S-tine or C-tine (as seen attached picture)

Around here TSC and such sell King Kutter cultivators like these:

It comes standard with high quality spring steel "C" tines with reversible heat-treated points. )</font>

I've seen them in the sales yards but never seen one being used. Rotary tillers seem much more popular in our area /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

We use a KingKutter TG-60 Rotary Tiller. It will make a seedbed as fine as anyone might ever need for planting and it is easy to use.

Rob, I used my tiller (rotary tiller) to prepare the ground for planting, but I had one of the TSC cultivator plows, like you showed, and I replaced the points with field sweeps, like the ones Nomad showed, and used that to cultivate after the plants came up.

Bird Are you familiar with fender cultivators? that had the 2 hinged fenders that protected the crops from getting engulfed fully by the soil. I have a set with my Farmall Cub. with the cultivators on the bottom of the tractor and the engin and seat offset you can cultivate in second gear which is fast for a Cub.

I've got a single row c tine cultivator like the one pictured that I use to work my sweet corn with. I'm going to have to use it and the disk next spring in the garden as my tiller gave up half of it's rotary shaft to my rocky soil. That's ok with me though cause I think the tiller makes the seed bed too fine, with not as much air getting down into the soil. The air is necessary to help break down last year's crop residues.

I don't believe I am. When I replaced the points on my cultivator, I used the 6" sweeps shown in the original picture on four points, but the two inside ones that would straddle the row had "right" and "left" sweeps that would not throw the dirt over the plants.
