My brother lives in a neighborhood where they have a swimming pool which is on all their property lines. They pay the association money every year to have access to the pool.

Their insurance company cancelled the policy on them and they're having a hard time finding a new one to cover this type of thing. Anyone know of a company that could cover this idea??

Has your brother checked with the other "owners" to see what insurance companies they use?

I guess I'm assuming that what your saying is that his personal home owner's insurance company canceled the policy, right?

I wonder why the association doesn't have a policy itself? It seems to me that since these owners pay the association so they all can use the pool, the association would need to provide some insurance. Does an owner have the option of not paying, understanding that they then could not use the pool?

Long ago when I was in a "community" (whew, glad that's over), we had to take down a swing set in our little park. Seems our neighborhood association insurance would not cover it and to do so would be VERY expensive.

So, probably in this case the association is footing the insurance bill, but maybe not?

it makes me wonder sometimes. Our old home we had an inground pool. Insurance was kind of high because it was seen as an "attactive nuisance".. 6 ft high solid fencing and removing the permanent diving board made a considerable change in the pool part of the policy. However, the house before that, we hand dug a 1/2 acre or so pond. Over the years it has tangled nuisance vines and what have you. No fencing, no signs, nothing.. It was not considered an attractive nuisance.. Go figure..

I'm sorry the community has insurance on the pool and the price he was paying was helping cover the pool. The association had insurance cancelled on them and they're looking for other carriers. Does anyone have any recommendation?
