Well, it's that time of the year again; the tree is going up, house decorated (maybe), etc...
But what traditional events happen in your community?
Tonight the annual 'Carols on the Foreshore' takes place, here in St Helens. The Australian Army Band comes up from Hobart, sets up a mobile bandshell and plays to around 300-400 people. We bring lawn-chairs or picnic blankets, enjoy wine & cheese/beer & nibblies and generally sing our hearts out! Santa (of course) rucks up, advises the kiddies to be extra good and then hands out bags of lollies. It's a great evening's entertainment and gathering.

Christmas Eve here is one of the strangest but lovable traditions I've encountered... they have a Christmas Parade! Early festivities start with 'sausage sizzles' (BBQ'd snags with fried onions on a slice of bread + sauce) and the local Service Clubs (Lions/Rotary) hold a raffle for hams, turkeys and crays (big lobsters without claws). The crays are the most popular!
Then the parade starts at about 7pm-ish (it's Summer here, so the sun goes down after 8:30) and it is the 'cheesiest' thing you ever saw! Anybody can be in it... The police, firies, ambos, marine rescue, community organisations, Scouts, some businesses, or just families who've dressed up. They fling lollies (candies) to the crowd who've lined the street. Lastly comes Santa with his 'comely' female elves. :cool2:
Once the parade has passed, everyone in the crowd sits where they're at and waits for around 15 minutes... 'cause the parade turns around and comes back! YAY! More LOLLIES!!! :cool2::cool2:

Midnight Services are then held at the local Churches.
