How about "floundering" versus "foundering"?

I've always said "foundering", like a horse going lame. I saw a printed news story the other day that said a certain government program was "floundering"

Just curious...anyone ever heard the term "damned jack" or "damn jack" when referring to someone that irked someone else???

They are both proper words. Founder is related to laminitis in horses as you mention; flounder means to flop around clumsily or helplessly. Sounds pretty accurate in describing many government programs.

I jokingly say “I’m going to change the motor earl”. Years ago I worked with a guy who would say “ sounds cereal” instead of serious. It was a restaurant with a bunch of 16 and 17 year old kids so we of course all started saying it.

Ethyl was the higher octane.
