common Redpole feeding

I see the ruby throated hummingbird #81 does cross the Gulf of Texas...My friend who worked on offshore platforms would find them dead on the rig. It is a loooong way across water for such a little bird. He says they would stay until they died.

The Ruby Throated hummingbirds have been crossing the gulf for a long, long time and a high percent of them must make it.

Redpole feeding, more photos

We've got snow moving in here, like much of the Midwest. The Redpoles are eating lots, like over 5lbs per day so we started putting some in a 2nd feeder and both came be seen in the photos. I tried counting them and believe there is over 100 at these 2 feeders. I added a "bounce" photo we took while skiing this afternoon. Some of the photos were taken out our kitchen window, looking south. Hope we like them.

The Redpoles are passing through here and I swear, we have the only black niger feeder for them! My lame photos don't do justice since it doesn't show them on the snow feeding and in the tree, waiting there turn. Are they at your feeder? They drain this feeder about 1/2 of it, per day.
