Comfortis Flea Control, Anyone use it?

It is natural and if it works as well as Spinosad and doesn't hurt the animals, I sure could see why the huge flea collar/dip/drop/bomb/spray/etc industry would worry.

Did you feed it to them with food?

Yes, their regular food. My son's dog was able to keep it down. Mine couldn't.

By regular food, I mean 3/4 cup Natural balance kibble, 1/2 cup green beans, half slice of NB turkey/lamb roll and a drizzle of olive oil for their coats. Spoiled rotten.

Did it work on the fleas on your son's dog? It sounds so simple.

Yes, but then he and the dog moved to puerto rico (hates snow) and now he has some kind of weird itchy rash that is driving the poor dog nuts. The vet does not know what is causing it, could be anything, but they are thinking about taking him off the comfortis to see if it improves or not. means they will have to be careful about exposure to the outdoors. Not saying that is what caused the rash, they just don't know what else to try.

My female, Julie (solid black one) gets infected from flea bites and I have been taking her to the VET about every May.
This year the Doc gave her Comfortis and steroid shot.
Also gave me a pill for Romeo (black and white Tuxedo male) Julie's brother who the fleas don't really bother.
Julie was better that same day, I saw dead fleas on Romeo's white stomach the next morning!!
Julie goes NUTS if I try to give her the pill or stuff on her back.
I called the VET Thursday and they said bring her in for the pill. They gave her the pill and only charged me for the pill, ($18.50) not the office visit!
I helped hold her while they shoved it down her throat with a stick thingie.
She weighs 14 lbs. !!! Romeo is bigger!
The stuff works.

Yeah it works, no problems here. Used it on 3 different dogs/breeds for I think 5 years now. I'm not sure if its reducing the flea population here, but we didn't give them anything this year. Never really had a problem. Although our dogs are mainly inside and we have a small yard. When I moved into this house I spent 2 months getting rid of fleas from the previous owner, and its almost all hardwood floors. I'm sure like any medicine, results and side affects may vary, and the fleas will probably adapt to it eventually.

I have used a spray that contains a ingredient called Ovatrol, it doesn't kill the fleas but makes them sterile. The spray also contains pyretherem (sp?), an extract of African daisy that is an insecticide. The fleas on the animal are killed but the ones that hop on later are sterile when they reproduce, thus breaking the breeding cycle. We literally have gone years between flea outbreaks and our cats and dogs are outdoors animals the cats hunt also.
I swear by this stuff, I have had cats that were killed by the internal and dermal treatments such as frontline.

I chose a different type of control.
Online people here in the states can buy flea and other pest control items from other countries that still allow retail sales.
I buy Revolution from Australia for the largest breeds and apply it as needed on my dog.
The barn cats get the same remedy but for the felines.
For the surrounding areas to the home (Away from the barn) I use a pyrethroid (Bifen I/T) sprayed quarterly from a tank in the bed of my Ranger.
Momma's got a no bug policy.
Bifen is a pretty good termiticide, as well. Annually, we empty the kitchen cabinets and spray inside them, as well as the pantry.
It's Florida at its finest.

I've used it a couple of times on my Golden Retrievers. No problems with any of them (3) and no more fleas.

I went to e vet and they use NexGard. Seems safer than Frontline from what I can read, even though it is made by the same company.

Been using it on our cat for a while. She gobbled the first one down like it was a treat but every month since I've had to force feed it. She doesn't throw it up and it seems to work fine. She lives outdoors more than in and we haven't seen a flea or tick on her. Much better than putting that drop on her back. She hated that and went berserk every time we did it.

We've been using Trifexis for our dogs. It's a heartworm preventer, flea and tick control and intestinal worms. It's expensive but seems to work great on our 3 dogs.

Nexgard is by the same company as Heartgard. I wonder if they will combine at least those two.
