Probably one of the most popular gun designs in the world.
Maybe not as important a player today, with all the other guns available, but it sure had a good run. Of course I know there are some serious die hards out there :)

I've got a series 70, Love to find an old one stamped U.S. on it.

Thought about this today as there was a storey about Utah being the first state to name a State Gun, I guess Browning was born there.

Way to go Utah

I have a springfield black stainless combat model 1911. I had a Randall arms 1911 that I should have never gotten rid of. My other 45acp is a ruger p97 Randy

Probably one of the most copied guns as well, the more experienced probably prefer the non Colts. I have seen some beauties.

But I would love to find a very early WW1 Govt issue for it's historic/ collectors value. Must of been quite the sidearm to carry in 1914, alot of auto-loading stopping power in a small package.

I have owned 1911's since I was about 21, Would not be without a couple, I have shot competition with them for many years. The old box stock guns need a lot of work, (beavertail, accuracy job, extractor tuning, ejector port relieved, etc). but they make a great platform to customize. Nothing feels better in your hand (pistol wise:laughing:) than a 1911. Old John B. made lots of guns before the 1911, and almost finished one pretty good pistol after the 1911, (the 1935 Browning Hi-Power) that was finished up by another. But IMHO it was his crowning achievement.

I've been a fan for many years. Old John B was quiet the gun designer. I carried a series 70 Gold Cup as a duty weapon for most of my career. Lately, I've been thinking about a new S&W 1911 to add to the collection. At any rate.......Happy 100th 1911.

My Dad has two. I have not seen them in years. One was my grandfather's. It was issued to him in the early 40's and travelled with him from Normandy, to the Bulge and on to Germany. I remeber it being fairly plain in appearance. The second one is much older and if memory serves me, a little fancier but in what way I do not recall. It was carried by one of my grandfather's superior officers. It had the lanyard ring as I recall. It also went through Normandy all the way to Germany. It may also have been used in WWI but I don't know that for sure.

They were both in good shape.

My Dad has Alzheimer's and is declining. I suspect these guns will come to me. I know the ones with WWI and WWII provenance are worth a fair amount but I doubt either of these will ever leave the family.

They would be worth keeping just for the history aspect. Irreplaceable.

What's Colts relationship to the Ithaca 1911 model 45?

Just wondering?

I have a modest gun collection. I have collected more along the lines of different actions than any particular caliber or brand. Of all the handguns I have owned the 1911 design is by far the one I admire most. The grip safety is such a unique - and never copied - feature. You really have to mean to shoot one of these guns. Very unlikely for an accidental discharge. The only handgun safety feature comparable is a single action revolver. No collector should be without one - or several. Check out the Springfield EMP in 9mm.
