Cold starts on some of my diesel equipment

I took advantage of the cold weather this morning to shoot some cold start videos on my Deuce and a Half and a few of my diesel generators. A couple of them are pretty cool to watch...smoky, chugging, missing diesel engines are music to my ears!

The 006a looks a little tired; lots of unburned fuel and then blue. Guessing the blue goes away after thermal equilibrium is reached.

Yep; the blue goes away after about a minute of run time.
I've owned several of the MEP-006a's and PU-650B/G's; they all start like that when it is below about 40 degrees outside. Above about 50, they fire off in just a second or two. Every one I've bought has had the ether system intact.
All of the -004a's I've had start very easily in the cold, and every one has had the ether assist system disabled. Some fundamental difference between the engines obviously...
This particular -006 doesn't use any oil and has plenty of power; it pulls over 80kW without losing more than 1hZ.
