I have never cared for the taste of diet soda, jsut could never get past that aspartin (sp?) taste. However for the first time i am drinking a diet soda. Coke Zero, it is really good tasting and has jsut an absolute minimul alost nothing aspertin taste. if you are a regular soda drinker and want to jsut try it you might be amazed. I have converted and am happy to reduce that sugar intake. The older you get the harder it is to burn off calories and if i can save a few here and there I am on the bandwagon. Give Coke Zero a try.

Rox,

Never cared for Coke myself, but I have discovered that a glass of half strawberry soda and water is just perfect for me. Most soda's are way too sweet, but this way I still get the flavor without the massive overload of sugar all at once.

I'm kinda partial to Sprite Zero. Like decaf coffee I prefer the "lites" over the regulars now.

Course I don't turn down Coke Zero and nor Pepsi's Zero which is it's diet Pepsi offering either :D

I don't care for diet pop taste, either. However, diet A&W rootbeer and diet Dr. Pepper are not too bad.

Diet A&W rootbeer with a shot of rootbeer schnapps is even better! ;)

The best diet drink of all, though, is ice water. :D

Coke Zero is probably the best tasting canned/bottled diet soft drink IMO, but I prefer Crystal Light or iced Luzianne, or just water with lemon. Love the new Crystal light green tea and have always liked their peach & raspberry flavored teas. Probably drink 1 batch (2 quarts) most days. MANY years ago I used to love original Coke...to the tune of at least 6-8 a day. When I stopped drinking it a few years ago I just stopped, completely. Now it tastes way too sweet.

Howdy Scott!

Back in the 80's I worked with this one rather large carpenter on a couple jobs. Across the road from one jobsite was a Kentucky Fried Chicken. He would go at lunch and get a 27 piece family dinner....and a small Tab. I'd sit there in amazement as he ate every single piece, sides and all. He said the small Tab balanced out the excessive eating. I'm not so sure about that.

By the way, my day wouldn't get going without my usual Diet Pepsi as I drive to work. Some people have to have coffee, I get my caffine from that Pepsi can.

I haven't been a Coca-Cola fan since the 80's when they "changed" the formula. There was such an outcry by loyal Coke fans that they "changed" it back and called it Coca-Cola "Classic".

They never got the recipe right in my opinion. I drink Pepsi now and ever since the Coke debacle. I've never looked back...."Choice of a new generation". Slogan sucks, but hey...at least they haven't tampered with the formula.

My alltime favorite "pop" as (MossRoad and all the other Yanks) call it is Grape Nehi.

I rant and rave about Grape Nehi so much that my neighbor went online and bought a case for me. He surprised me one day by asking me if I wanted one. I was like "yeah, right". He went and got me one out of the fridge and I almost fell over. I hadn't had one in over 20 years, at least. Apparently, some guy in North Carolina bought a truckload of it before they quit making it. He sells it in limited quantities and although I wasn't told what it costs, he charges 30 bucks just to ship a twelve pack or so...I can only imagine what my neighbor shelled out just to satisfy my craving.

I called the 1-800 number off the back of the bottle...I get a recording regarding "Snapple".

On the 8th day, God had a frosty Grape Nehi and ate a "mater sandwich.

:)

I think that was a smokescreen to ease the transition from cane sugars to corn syrup (Pepsi also uses corn syrup). Different countries have different mixes, I believe that some still use cane sugar. I only like cola out of a fountain where it's watered down too much to distinguish between Coke and Pepsi, although I like how Pepsi's touting that barely over 50% of the population who cares thinks Diet Pepsi has "more cola flavor". Sounds like the parents who complain because 50% of the students at a school are below average - I guess Barbie's right and math class really is hard!

Can't beat an ice cold SARSI or POP cola... Just have to go to the Philippines to get one! Price is right too at about 8 cents a bottle!

When in the PI, I always drank a cold San "Magoo"...and another...and another.

Mexico still used cane sugar to make Coke. Coke prohibits the sale of Mexican Coke Cola in the US. Given the Mexican population in the US there is a large black market in Mexican produced Coke. If you have a south of the border grocery store near by they might have some cane sugar Cola.

I saw a program on Pepsi and there is one plant in Texas, I think it was in Waco and was the first Pepsi bottler, that still uses cane sugar.

Don't know why I have this trivia in my head. :) I can't stand pop, cola, soda, whatever you want to call it. :D:eek: Makes me sick. Give me a beer instead! :D

I did like Grape Nehi. Didn't they also have Orange? I remember touring a bottling plant in Atlanta as a kid with Grape and Orange. The owner had a huge trophy room full of stuffed animals.

Later,
Dan

Coke Pepsi and RC all taste the same to me.
That's good cause I get to drink them all that way, but don't give me none of their diet stuff.

My main beverage is ice tea though. ;)

Oh, man! Grape Nehi! It's been so long since I had one of those. I have had some red creme soda recently. Good Stuff!!!

One pop I really like but can rarely find is Faygo Rockin Rye Cola. That is one of my favorites.

But my all time favorite is still good old Coke in a glass bottle made with sugar cane as dmccarty mentioned. It is available in small Hispanic grocery stores in some areas.

I usually have a couple cafiene free Cokes every day. A couple times a week I drop my wife off at work and before going to my job, swing by McDonald's for two breakfast burritos and a large Coke. Now that's a good breakfast! :D

I agree...Coke Zero is pretty good (case in the fridge). Pepsi's equivalent is Pepsi One, but more difficult to find.

The TV commercials w/ the Coke Classic and the lawyer wanting to sue Coke Zero is pretty funny though...albeit dry.

As far as formulation goes, my theory is that Coke was losing market share to Pepsi and needed to shake up their business. In doing so, they alienated many people, but after the Classic reintroduction, they stopped their domestic losses in share. Not sure I agree w/ the strategy, but it has worked out for Coke over the 20 or so years...

The best cola is an ice-cold beer though...especially when mowing!

Usually it is not for the calory savings.. but rather for the taste... I'm not a frequent drinker.. but if i order a R&C.. it's ALWAYS with a diet so i can taste the rum.. and not the syruppy sweet coke.. etc..

I have a large collection of "pop" bottles in the garage and many brands have come and gone over the years. Have two unopened bottles of "San Miguel" beer in the kitchen and a bottle of "Tanduay" rum in the garage and a bottle of Sarsi (rum and sarsi) that I brought back from the Philippines. Just waiting for the occasion!

I started drinking diet drinks a few years ago. Before that i drank Dr Pepper and did not really enjoy Coke. But when I decided to switch to diet, Diet Coke was much more available especially at fast food places. So I kinda got acustomed to the taste. I will sometimes drink Diet Dr Pepper but mostly Diet Coke.
The one thing for me about Coke Zero is the taste. It really does taste like regular Coke to me, but after getting used to diet drinks, regular drinks taste too sweet.
