I'm new to my 4520, and have just started to look at the service manual, but, see if you right turn signal works. Type of fault would be a short to battery + or open circuit (wiring or most likely blown bulb). If this is it, great if not I've still got a lot to figure out. Don't know if codes are universal across the 4x20 platforms or not and if that applies to 4310 or not, sounds like we all get to learn something here- are codes for common problems the same, or is each series (or even tractor within a series) different.

eepete,
I am waiting for Deere to look at my 4520 which has a "10" error code. Would you look this up in the service manual for me?

Thanks in advance,

Steve

@ glt61: I purchased the service manual for the tractor on line (got the CD). Also got the parts list. The service manual is about 600+ pages, both US and European. It was $80. Don't want to cut and paste from it 'cause it's copyrighted. As you can see, when things go bad it's worth the money. Also got the service manual for my Kutbota B21 when I got that. When you aren't smart enought to understand something, there's nothing like consulting the manual!
@ jenkinsph: Error code 10 is an error in controller #1. In a nutshell, these controllers need to be told about what they are connected to. So they check stuff like does the VIN match what it was programmed for and other setup stuff. They can reprogram the TCU and that should fix it. This is kinda like loading the software for it again. The tractor uses the CAN bus, which is used in automotive applications too. This allows for a mix of discrete sensors and smaller computerized sub-systems on the tractor. They can talk with each other via the CAN bus. Sounds complicated, but it's a big win. This also is what allows for such detailed error codes.
@ everyone: An example of why this is a win: I use a chip for driving relays that can also be used to drive small (20W or less) lightbulbs. Even when the bulb is "off", the chip tries to put out about 300 uA (.0003 amps) of current and looks at the voltage. This lets it tell if the load is connected or not. The chip can also sense an overcurrent and shut down the output. So this little chip can tell you if a bulb/wire is shorted, or if it's open while everything is just sitting there. Now I don't _know_ for sure that's whats going on, but this kinda stuff is very common in vehicle control systems. BTW, there are 42 pages of error codes and things to check. Hope all this makes sense.
