I am looking to make my 72 year old father's life a little easier this Christmas. He is exremely OCD about all of his equipment, and his Kubota riding lawn mower with the 60 inch deck is no different. It takes him a while to get the deck spotless after every week of cutting (regardless if the lawn needs it or not lol.) He has a pro lift now, and it helps him a lot to get under the deck for service. However I'm thinking of buying him a product called "Neverwet" (made by Rust Oleum I believe.) One of the local tractor shops recommended it. What do you think? According to the advertisement (WHICH HAS TO BE TRUE!) grass doesn't stick to the mower deck after an application of the product. Anybody else have an opinion on helping keep my dad's mower deck clean to save him some trouble? Thanks!

I coated the underside of a mower deck before . I used a product that was used for gravity flow grain wagons ( it was designed to make grain slide and not stick to the surface ) . It was a silver petroleum based product . It helped keep the bottom clean . This " Neverwet " sounds like something worth trying .

IDK if it would work. I'd be interested to hear if it does.

I have tried special coatings twice, after prepping the deck bottom, and both products (not the ones mentioned above) simply abraded off where the clippings were flung against the sides. It's a tough place to survive in! I too will be interested in results. Being in Louisiana, will he be "testing" the deck shortly?

Slick plate .

Clippings will scour-off just about anything up to hot dip galvanizing. Something 'non-stick'-ish that doesn't require surface re-prep per app would seem easiest to touch up when cleaning the deck. (Country Clipper owners smile & wink ... )

Fluid Film and Pam are environmentally benign and can be re-applied between scraping clumps with old or 'sample' credit cards. btw, I trim & use such (add radii & corners) to scour out under chainsaw covers when rotating chains. It way beats using a screwdriver for that.

Had the same problem to the point where after mowing a couple of times had to remove the deck and chip the clumps out, even in dry grass. Coated the deck with several coats of paint, and then drilled and tapped a hose fitting into the top of the deck like the newer Husky mowers. After each mowing I parked the mower on a cement slab, lowered the deck to the slab and hooked up a hose, run the water with the mower blades turning. Seams to work the best so far. Leaves a mess on the cement slab that washes off easy, but that is sure easier than removing the deck.

Thanks for the quick replies. I'm leaning more toward Slip Plate number 1 in the quart size can. Has anybody actually used this stuff? We wont hose our mower decks.

I use rejex paint sealant on vehicles. It is really slick. It might work good on a mower deck.

Graphite paint helps, but it's not an end all solution. Course, I clean my deck once at the end of the season. A cleaning after every mowing might ease the process. It no doubt comes under different brand names, but it's sold in farm supply stores for coating gravity boxes, chopper chutes, etc. This is the first winter I'll have the snowblower painted with it. Hopefully this will assist in making that white crap fly.
