I am always interested in buying products from companies that are going to be in business in 25 years. Take a look at the performance of the stocks of the big three over the last 5 years. All seem quite strong.

JD and Ford (NH) have been around for quite a while. I expect Kubota will be as well. The tractors certainly will be, as long as we take reasonably good care of them :).

Nothing in this world is for certain. Edsel, Oldsmobile.... All you can do is make a choice of what has good quality control, Durability, and a track record and hope it lasts for many years. Parts availability and service is another factor as to what will be around..QC is probably the biggest factor as to what will last because it at least is compared to a standard. Good luck in your purchases.

Very interesting. Although I don't quite agree with your assessment of the results.

Over the 5 years CNH stock was actually down slightly, JD stock was up just over 100% and Kubota stock was up 250%!

Those don't all seem to be quite strong to me. I would rate the CNH as poor, JD as strong and Kubota as outstanding.

I would have like to known that was going to happen 5 year ago I could have made a pretty good investment!

I went back 10 years and over 10 years CNH has dropped from right around $100 per share to just under $30 per share. Not the kind of performance I would want of a stock in my portfolio. John Deere had the best performance over 10 years and went from $37 to $94 and Kubota didn't do as well on a 10 year window and went from $30 to $44.

CNH had a huge bottom back in January 2003 when it opened the week at $19 and closed under $4!! In restrospect that would have been the time to buy as you would have made an 800% return on your investment in just under 4 years.

Wouldn't it be nice to go back in time or know the future?

I didn't want to state the obvious and offend anyone.

When I clicked on the link, I went under "symbol lookup" and typed in AGCO & added to the list(since I'm a Massey owner), and they appear to be running close to Deere. Ahead of CNH, but nothing like Kubota.

I believe in 2003 was when New Holland and Case International merged. I'm sure their is a lot more to this story than this financial chart to see how well a company is doing fiancially. From this chart it looks like investors were worried at first about the merger, but it also looks like it is rebounding nicely and doing pretty good and should be long term.

There was also a stock split in April 2003. It boosted the stock price by issuing 1 CNH share for every 5 previously held shares. This artificially increased the stock value.
