<<< besides the fact that if you call the online banking center you … get a non-english speaker >>>
<<< If I get a HS graduate that can read and write, has a clean driving record, passes a drug test, and can fill out the most basic paperwork... they are almost guaranteed to be a crew foreman… it almost always works out that the lower the level of education of the applicant, the more issues are present. >>>
The two comments above are closely related. High school graduation rates in my area are alarming. Only 4 out of 10 students that enter one local high school actually leave 4 years later with a diploma in hand. This dismal statistic is mirrored in many urban areas across the country. Demographics do not bode well for the American economy. As more and more boomers leave the U.S. workforce, younger foreign workers more skilled than their U.S. counterparts will step up to fill the void. Wealth will continue to be drawn away from our communities unless a sea change in our educational system takes place.
A quote from a piece by Rowland Nethaway found in the Wace Tribune-Herald reads as follows. “Foreign colleges, particularly in India and other Asian nations, are turning out graduates who have dedicated their lives to achieving the highest attainable levels of academic learning with the goal of landing a job in the United States. Their efforts are paying off. America's high-tech industries are hiring more and more foreign workers to write computer programs, design electronics and run research and development projects. More and more technical support jobs for American companies now are located overseas.”
