What is a single clutch vs. a dual stage clutch?

A dual stage (if it's like mine) will disengage the drive when you push it half way down, then disengage the pto when you push it all of the way down.

When I shuttle from reverse to forward, can I get away with stepping on the clutch half way?

My ck35 does have the two stage clutch. Pressing down on it, I can feel the first then second positions. I'm having knee problems, and if I can get away with just a partial step down, it would be a blessing.
The first stage is light, the second stage is tough on the knee. Anybody out there just partially press down when taking off in gear or shuttle shifting from reverse to forward?

I just got in from a test-run. Very light pressure on the clutch, and it works. No grinding or anything. I hope the drive clutch is disengaging all the way with the partial step down. Big difference on my bum knee.

That's kind of the purpose of having 2 stages. For tasks such as mowing you change speed and/or direction without disengaging the mower.
