Working on a kubota L4200 dt. I have worked on numerous tractors just not one of these. I have adjusted the clutch rod both ways to the maximum but the pto does not disengage

Is this a two stage clutch? Do I therefore need a clutch?

The transmission disengages just not the pto.

The pto engages and disengages with the lever but it shears the bolt instantly due to the force

Any feedback please

The PTO is NOT ran through the clutch... It has a separate hydraulic clutch pack. And the proper way to engage it is very slowly 'feather' it in with the control lever. You should never push it into position... and even doing it correctly "feathering" it in... you Should reduce the engine RPM toward idle... The L4200 has plenty of torque, it will keep up with the load if you bring the PTO on slowly...

You should bring the engine down to idle BEFORE you disengage the PTO also,.... KennyV

i suspected as much and frankly i think it is a very poor system. Thank you very much for the explaination, I will adjust the clutch and work on my pto tecnique

Actually this completely independent PTO is a much better system than the combination two clutch system...
Just takes understanding how it works vs how the old system was.... You will eventually like it... KennyV

I guess but what is the advantage? Before if i wanted i could step on the clutch and stop the tractor and mower in one shot. Now you have to step on the clutch and disengage the pto

Independent PTO was a major advancement when it was first introduced. That was back in the days of gear type transmissions. One company's baler required stopping to wrap a bale with twine. Non-independent PTO required stepping on the clutch, taking the tractor out of gear, letting up on the clutch reapplying power to the baler so it could tie the bale, then stepping on the cluthc, re-engaging a gear, letting up on the clutch and away you go. With independent PTO you could step on the clutch with the baler continuing to run, tie, and eject the bale. Pretty soon every major manufacturer had live PTO. I find it a nuisance that my L5740 HSTC does not have live PTO - when you step on the clutch the PTO stops even though the PTO tach continues to say it is running and gives the speed at which it would be running if I hadn't stepped on the clutch. All of our larger tractors have power shift transmissions with true live PTO. The GST equipped Grand L's have true live PTO.

I see how it would be advantageous in a larger tractor for those applications but for a homeowner tractor below 50 hp, it seems to be a nuisance.

Thank you for the info here i thought i had a problem and i didnt
