Chains clearance and 16.9x24 non-adjustable rims

Hi all

I have a ford Industrial (250c) with 16.9x24 non-adjustable rims on it. I don't think there is nearly enough clearance for rear tire chains on it between the fenders and wheel. Can the non-adjustable rims be reversed? Manual mentions it for the adjustable ones, but nothing for the non-adjustable ones. I'd hate to have to pull the fenders to get chains to fit.

Anybody have any ideas?

Check the "dish" offset by measuring from the outside edge of the rim to the mounting plate and from the inside edge to the mounting plate. Simply hold a straight edge across the tire and measure in from both sides. Usually there is a 2" or more difference from one side of a rim to the other. So you might again 2" by switching the tires to the other side. The other option is to have a spacer plate made, (they may be available commercially) to go between the axle end and the rim mount with the appropriate bolt pattern to increase your tire width. You'll probably need to buy wheel spacers. I had a Mahindra 2615HST with non-adjustable rims. Same problem of not enough clearance for chains. I had 2" spacers made to move the wheels out, then chains fit. Check your bolt pattern and bolt spacing as the are a few companies that sell ready made spacers.

if you can turn rims around to gain a wider stance... make sure you swap tires side to side. to maintain proper tread direction.

and it may not look like it. until you do what halftrack noted... and then you will suddenly realize you can gain some extra clearance.
