I have started to clean up brush piles of pine trees that were originally planted as Christmas trees but then got to big. They were bulldozed down and piled up with lots of dirt in the piles. I wanted to clean up the brush and the dirt, I am using an add on tooth bar and a add on grapple. So far they have worked well.

This is a pic with some brush on and almost a full load of dirt. Doesn't look big until you start lifting all that soil, has a good bit of weight to it.

That sure is a mean looking front end isn't it?

I'm sure a regular grapple with plenty of room for dirt to fall through would probably work better, but you've got the right idea. The extra length of the toothbar teeth can really help to pick up brush without the dirt.

That 45S is a real hoss!
John
EDIT:
Are you able to come down on the pile in a near-dump position and pick the stuff up so much of the dirt falls out?

That would have been one burly xmas tree on the left in your mouthfull picture.

I also have a bunch of piles of dirty brush that need to be seperated and burned. Does the woody debris come clean enough to burn in a reasonably sized fire? I realize that a hot enough fire will burn dirt.

How is the top of your bucket handling the grapple stress?
