Hi,
I have a 55 gal drum from a carwash that held detergent. I want to use it as a water supply for my chickens. To clean it out, I ran a hose in it (gravity fed from brook) for 2 days. Then I put in a cup of bleach and about 10 gallons of water and rolled it around then rinsed it out. There is still a bit of a soap smell in the barrel. Any ideas on what else I can do to clean it out?
Thanks

Pour a big bottle of white vinegar in it and slosh it around. The detergent is basic and the acid of the vinegar will help rinse it out.

Thanks Chuck, I will try it this weekend.

If that is a plastic 55 gal drum the soap smell will not come out for a long time. I have about 4 of them drums that I tried rinsing out the soap smell and could not get it out. I think the soap mixes some with the plastic. I did try vinegar and I thought it was gone but it was back the next day. Another thing you could try, and I was going to try also but haven't is to buy your self some packs of bee-bees. Through them in there with the vinegar and roll the barrels around some or shake the barrels if you can.
