Cleaning old clippings off of a used deck?

Getting a used deck, I want to refurb it , and part of that is to clean it thoroughly. what can I apply to the ubderside of the deck to clean the old clippings down to the paint? I read other posts and it seems that high pressure water, with a wire brush and scrapers is the way to go, but is there anything easier?

The best I have found is to soak the underside and then use a putty knife. This has worked the best for me. When you do get it cleaned you may consider a putty knife cleaning after each mowing which is easy and fast.
Deck will out last the engine.

I have used the power washer in the past. I recently acquired an 'old' deck for my tractor that I plan to cannabalize. The most interesting thing I found on it was a hose fitting at the 11 o'clock position on the deck housing! That's definately going to be an item of transfer to the original deck. I think it would work great to fasten a garden hose to the deck and then kick in the pto while the water is running. Have never seen, heard or tried anything like this. But I'm anxious for anything that makes work disappear!

That's the way I used to do it. Soak it down with water and let is sit for a few minutes. Then putty knife. Once you have it really clean, consider painting it once a year and giving it a good coat of wax. It seems to last for the year and doesn't require so many putty knife sessions, jsut a good spray out while the grass is still damp.

Of course, my new mower is much easier to spray out, now that I can lift it 4 feet off of the ground /w3tcompact/icons/tongue.gif
