Cleaning And Lubricating BX24 Cylinders

Should I be cleaning and lubricating the cylinders on my BX24, especially after heavy use of the hoe or loader?

Specifically, I am referring to the "shiny rods" that move in and out of the cylinders (sorry...I don't recall the names of those parts.)

Any advice?

Those shiny rods pretty much clean themselves as you use the loader or backhoe. You should remove any caked on sand, mud, or other crud because that can scratch and score those rods over time, and wreak havoc on the seals, and may lead to leakage. The biggest thing with those is to never let them get scratched or marred in any way.

Of course it never hurts to wipe anything down when your done with it, and I typically wipe them down with a rag thats damp with hydraulic fluid.

Also, it's not a bad habit to store or park the machine with the hydraulic cylinders retracted when possible, as this is the best natural protection for those rods.
