Dear Colleagues,

I have no air compressor. Thus, I am considering cleaning the outside air filter of my MF 235 with a water hose, let filter dry, then reinstall, and keep on ranching. Any thoughts or suggestions are appreciated.

is the filter paper element, or the old school oil bath wire mesh? personally, i would stay away from water. air compressors can puncture the element. i use a leaf blower & blow inside out. on my old massey 35 (oil bath/wire mesh) i used diesel & air compressor. sorry if this does not pertain to your case. good luck

My filter is not in oil, it has an inner filter and the outer filter, both dry. I like the idea of the leave blower. Thanks so much.

great, good luck, my blower tube is round & fits nicely inside the outer filter (kubota) high volume, low pressure, just what's needed. happy ranching

I just tap mine against a tire to shake out what's there.

Shouldn't do either/ it should be replaced if it's that bad, even shaking it , will give your engine a healthy dose of dirt when you start it back up. Filters are cheap compared to engines

really depends..after only a few days on a new one i'll blow it out from a dusty or debris ridden job. but yes, over time & with a keen eye, of course replace. if i took your advice of replacing every time dust collected on the outside of the filter, it would be 20 new ones per year. otoh, some just leave it until the indicator pops out or engine starts smoking, etc. replacement is way overdue in that case!!!

But in dry weather combines can plug air filters twice a day . Would you spend $200 a day on air filters . Compressed air is fine as long as the filter is in good shape to start .

How about using a leaf blower?
