I have the Titan bucket clamps. I tried several times using one in the center to move my small boat around but it keeps shifting side ways when pulling the trailer and worse when pushing.

You will never have stability unless you have 2 points of anchor...

I welded a receiver on top the bucket of my Terramite and use a 10 inch drop hitch. If I had to do it over again, think I would see about rolling the bucket facing down and see about welding it on the back, or closer to the back for less drop

You certainly saved a few $$ by making your own. I've had pretty good luck with this one from Northern Tool:

I put a piece of 3/8" angle iron in the bucket before clamping. The length of the angle needs to match the width of the bucket. I drilled a partial hole in the angle to fit the tip of the clamp bolt. This reduces the side to side shift and also prevents distortion of the bucket cutting edge when lifting trailers with a heavy tongue weight.

It can be difficult to see the ball when maneuvering. In my case, I had to bypass the seat engine cutout switch so I could stand for better visibility.

I welded a piece of square tubing on the top edge of my box blade. I normally keep a 4" drop hitch with a 2" ball in there. I can easily move any trailer weather it has a ball hitch or a pintel hitch.
Sometimes I'll put a 2" ball on one of the forks of my pallet forks. That is not quite as handy.

I built this years ago for my tractor. It's served me well. Easy to attach, no tools needed, spreads the weight a little (preventing damage to the bucket). Hardest part of the entire job was drilling a 3/4" hole near the edge. Welding only required attaching two layers of offset pieces of steel weld to receiver tube.
