I just bought a ck30hst and found that it has no drive power. Plenty of engine power but it seems it is not getting to the tires. I have a FEL and backhoe attached. When I try to push or pull anything it just sits, the motor doesn't bog unless I push the hst down. The hst is engineered for more torq with less push. I am doing this all in low range and have also tried 4 wheel drive.

What should I do? Trade it for a manual?

I have not had any problem like this at all. I seem to get power to my tires for anything I need.

What RPM's are you running? Also keep in mind the less foot pressure on the pedal the more power you will get to the ground. The more the push on the pedal the less power.

What are you pushing and pulling against? Could it just be more than what any 30HP tractor could do?

That sounds odd. My CK30hst has plenty of power. As someone said, check your hydro fluid level and I usually don't push or pull anything without being above 2000 rpm. Last week, I was cutting down an area of rock hard clay dirt with the fel. I could hear the hydro trans working hard in medium range but it still pushed. So I used low instead, didn't want to overwork it for nothing, and it could care less how deep I wanted to dig. I would have the bucket lift the front tires off the ground a little and let it dig in deep. I didn't need 4wd with the bh hanging on the back. Remember not to mash the pedal down all at once. I've read other members post of a pressure relief valve that was apparently not letting the correct amount of pressure to the trans. Maybe that's your problem and someone here with experience on the subject can help you.

I also have an CK30HST and find that in high range it only has the power to move the tractor and a light load. Any digging with the FEL or starting up a steep grade requires a shift to a lower range. I only have 27 hours of operation so I can only attest to my limited use. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Try to start your car/truck out in 4th gear and see how much power you have, same thing. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Not complaining mind you, just making an observation for Jocassee of the limitation of the high range. Low range & high r's = plenty of power for me! If he is still having a problem then there might be a mechanical problem, wouldn't you say? Just a novices opinion though.

High range is like you said, more of a light load transport gear and definitely not up steep hills. Most tractors are this way. Just like high gear in a car.
No power in medium or low sounds like he has a problem. I was cutting down some dirt mounds for a neighbor today. I was in low range, using 4x4, and diff lock so not to rip up his yard to much. The neighbor failed to tell me that a stump was buried under the dirt. When the bucket hit the stump, all the tires started to spin and I dug a nice set of rutts. The tractor was never hurting for engine or trans power from the hst.

Seems to me that the high range on a hydrostatic transmission is not the same as starting out in 4th gear on a truck. The HST in hi is designed to start the tractor from a stop, it will have less torque available to the ground at any speed.

As for the post, give it some rpms and shift to low range for heavy slow work.
