My ck30 dies at random times. I have no problem starting and running it. But it just dies at random times. No noticeable pattern. Doesn’t necessarily have a load on it nor is the PTO running. And as soon as it dies I’m able to restart it without hesitation. Seems like it’ll happen a half dozen times in a days work. Any ideas what may be causing it? I’m thinking a short in wiring.

It’s a shuttle shift ck30 with 300 hours

I'd check for a possible loose wire on one of the safety switches or the key switch etc...

Put an inspection camera into the fuel tank... what you're describing are the classic symptoms of having a biological growth.

If you do have it, it'll look like fairy-floss (cotton candy) mixed with phlegm.

What model year is your Kioti? I think in 2008 or 2009 and later, it was a power on solenoid for the injection pump. Mine is a CK30hst 2004 which is opposite. A diesel engine, once started doesn't need any electrical power to run. So if your thinking electrical, then something is activating the injection pump fuel shut off solenoid. The key switch can start to go bad, which has happened to many, and give this type of symptom. I had to change my switch after similar symptoms like yours. You can try cleaning it with some WD-40, PB Blaster, or your preferred cleaner which does help. Just spray it in the key hole and work it back and forth. Also if electrical, there are several wire plugs under the right floor board that can get corroded connections and cause problems. If it was starving for fuel somehow, the engine should slow down and then stop. Not just immediately shut down so I think your on the right track which should take you to the engine stop solenoid being activated. My CK only has one safety switch on the clutch and only works when you crank the engine over. If yours is newer, it may have more safety switches, and worth checking as mentioned. Just read the prior post after typing. When it stops, is it a sudden shut down, as when you turn it off, or does the rpm slow down and then stop? If the later,, then a possible fuel problem.

That was the first thing that came to my mind. I have done it so many times on my CK30

Hitting the key with your knee? That would never have occurred to me. :)

(there again, I'm a short-arse )

Generally, Diesel engines run fine with no electrical power. However, Kioti engines after 2005-2008 use a two-coil Stop Solenoid. Different models transitioned to this configuration on different dates during the 2005-2008 range. The stop solenoid is bolted to the front of the engine block and lacks the external linkages used on the previous configuration. The Stop Solenoid is spring-loaded to shut off fuel to the engine (by forcing the injection pump rack to the zero fuel position) when power is removed from the "hold" coil. This power is supplied directly from the key switch in the on, heat, and crank positions. Any disruption in this current will cause the engine to stop.

Assuming you have this newer stop solenoid setup, Victor may be on the right track. Squirt some WD40 or electrical contact cleaner in the key hole and cycle the switch to see if that helps. The key switch is very simple but water and dirt get into the electrical portion and produce an unreliable connection. It is not hard to replace or clean the switch but the WD40 trick seems to work and it's very cheap/easy. Some owners do it annually as preventive maintenance. I'm not sure how the WD gets to the electrical contacts, but it does, somehow.

Here's something else you may want to try. Listen to the sound of the stop solenoid extending as you turn the key to "OFF" with the engine stopped. Next time the engine quits, see if you hear that sound when you turn the key off. If not, the stop solenoid already extended and stopped the engine.
