Don't know how much snow you get where you are, but you will be SO glad you got an hst over a gear version after your first storm.

Congrats. Kioti's are great little beasts.

I am. I've had both gear and HST. HST is all I'll ever have again.

I'm still not so sure!

You see your constantly shifting with your foot as you go while I can simply pick the right gear let the clutch out once and go. IS it not work to hold that HST pedal constantly? For me its actually more tiresome than having to switch a gear even with the clutch when I have to work on the hills. Flicking a switch on the dash for forward or reverse here and there compared to using my leg/foot constantly to change direction also feels like a big difference after a day in the fields.

Yesterday I pushed in the clutch 2 times. Once to start the tractor moving and once again when I came back to the barn to park it. If the time was spent on the HST I would have been holding that pedal for hours.

Cruise control on a HST is your friend. No constant shifting.I have to call BS on you only shifting 2 times when you left the barn and came back.Did you drive down the road or just move 10ft.?Did you engage any implements?I have owned shuttle shift tractors for 30 plus years and can NEVER remember shifting only 2 times from start to finish. But hey its your story.LOL...

I haven't found one cruise system that actually holds its speed constant.

Call bull on anything you want! I would say by your statement that your not nearly the operator you think you are and you also have no Idea what chore I was doing or how far from the barn I might have had to venture.

I don't like cruise control on the HST nearly as much as I like the more constant and easy to adjust throttle pedal on a gear machine. WHen the HST needs adjusted I have to release the cruise to get threw the ruff spot then try and find the exact setting I was at for the next part of the field while with the gear its just a little light push on the throttle then let it fall back on the adjustment I have previously set with the hand throttle and knowing the exact speed at which the machine travels by its RPM and gear I have no need for a expensive GPS/computer controlled cruise or any other device that is a band aid on the system.

I agree there are specific tractor uses for which geared rather than hydrostatic transmission would be an advantage, but arguing that gear saves you from moving your ankle joint an inch or two when you want to change speeds or direction.....are you kidding us?? Can you drive a car? Does that wear you out?? Maybe you need Geritol.

And, unless you have your custom solenoid activated shuttle shift lever mounted on your FEL joystick or steering wheel, I'm guessing you let go of one of those every time you change direction doing loader work. How convenient.

I use the cruise control on my CK 30 HST most of the time blowing my long driveway or down the road and have no issues with it. It keeps the ground speed that I set it at and stays there till I turn it off.

from another thread I posted in discussing gear vs hst:

I'm 6'3", 225 lbs, size 11 foot.

What I find cramps my leg on a gear machine is when I move snow or dirt. With snow, clutch down, shift into gear, push snow with bucket, clutch down, shift into R to position, clutch down to stop, shift into first to get to where I dump, clutch up, move to dump location, clutch down to stop, dump, clutch down, shift to R, clutch up, back up, clutch down, shift into F, clutch up, repeat several hundred or a thousand times to clear a 600-800 ft driveway. Do this for an hour or so, then do the same thing for a neighbor. With deep snow, my left leg hardly ever stops going up and down. Talk about thigh burn ! When I got off the machine I could hardly walk. I did this for nearly 25 years.

Now I just gently rock my foot back and forth. I can run the machine all day without a single ache or pain.

I like the fact that I can make those wheels turn so slowly, that it's barely perceptible. I can drive up to a truck to dump with tremendous precision and not worry about hitting the truck.

And since the machine is designed to run like that, I'm not hurting a clutch disk nor worrying about wearing it out with slippage.

I will restate..... I will never have another gear again....hst is the only way to go.
