CK2610 front axle fluid change

SAE 90 wt or better, or the same as the transmission,
When looking at a spec like that and with the lube going for the differential and bevel and spur drives for the front axle,
personally I would have and have used 75W-140 gear lube as it has better extreme pressure additives (EP).
But it's your axle so do what you wish the manual allows most anything.

My thoughts exactly... I put AMSoil 80W-90 in mine. Its always in 4WD because of the hilly area its used in. Couldnt imagine what would happen using UTF.

I Question UTF as well, I remember when I bought a small Kubota, it was a BX2370, when I went in to get the 50 hr. I asked for all the filters, fluids that the manual called for, parts counter came back with what I asked for plus 90W gear oil, I asked him what it was for and he said you've got to change the front axle fluid - I showed him the manual, said it did not call for it and he showed me a Kubota notice that said UTF was used at the factory and to replace w/ 90W at service - he said Kubota told them that they used UTF at the factory as it was the only fluid they have - works for break in but it needed to be changed to gear oil at first service - so I did. As far as my Kioti, at 50 hrs I used 70-140 synthetic gear oil - I know many will say don't need it, and if it works for them good, but I'm comfortable with Gear Oil in the front......

<<- he said Kubota told them that they used UTF at the factory as it was the only fluid they have ->>

That sure sounds like an absurd explanation. Kubota is a large corporation and they can have any fluid they want at the factory. I believe that most all UTF is GL4 gear rated so it will work but SAE 90 GL5 is probably better.

I didn't think much of it, just accepted it as todays manufacturing, yes Kubota could easily afford having every brand of fluid readily available, but under todays manufacturing guidelines, engineers / executives are there for Cost, and review it daily - all decisions are made under cost effectiveness - plus or minus, I'm assuming they reviewed the fluids; new the UTF would serve for front axle use, maybe even better for break in but for long term 90 would be better - for factory ease and effectiveness the use of only UTF in both holes would eliminate the need for one more storage / application station and would prevent any accidental exchange of fluid - making it a cost effective decision - and I'm sure they weighed in any warranty percentage for failed UTF performance usage, which would have been less than the cost savings in the UTF use. That's how decisions are made, and in my opinion I'm sure the UTF will work well in all but the heavy 4WD use units - I'm also of the opinion that they may have felt due to the smaller 2370 axle size, or they had a couple of issues - or what ever reason, they felt it needed the 90 gear oil at first fluid change - MB Tractor is a very large Kubota dealer - I have no reason to believe they would have printed up a Kubota service notice and told me a false hood just to sell a little gear oil......

Called my dealer tonight and they agreed with gear oil. I wasn’t opposed, just learning as I go.

Mobil1 75w-90 would qualify for a SAE90, grade oil, correct?

Spoke with my dealer about UTF vs. gear oil. He stated that if they do the 50 hr service they use 80/90 gear oil. He also stated UTF in no problem too. I used Mobil 424 in my front axle. I checked the specs on Mobil 424 and it is GL-4 rated. He also said no need to drain the mobil 424 but next service interval to use 80/90 gear oil.

Decided to change out to 80/90 gear oil since I'm in 4 wheel drive most of the time. I did notice the gears a re much more quiet. I had a bunch on hand so I thought what the heck.

When I changed out the fluids in my CK30HST I used Amsoil 75w-110 Severe Gear in the front axle as per my manual (gear lube). I use my FEL alot and also 4x4 while getting my firewood and while snow blowing. I think a good gear lube should protect the front gears better than a hydraulic lube. My understanding as told to me by my dealer, is that the hydraulic lube is installed at the factory in the various drive units, due to the ease of having one/same lube to install for simplicity sake. Also eliminating the risk that a gear lube be installed in error in a HST transmission. The transmission would probably be damaged in short order due to the thick lube.
