Natem, I bought my 20 hst in 2008 and it has not needed to see a dealer. I did the 50 hour at home, messy but doable. All parts and accessories are available from on line dealers. The dealer I bought from changed brands a year after I bought my tractor from him. I was not happy about that since I felt I would be required to have service at a dealer I did not buy from, however that has not been an issue. So far.
The price from out of state to in state was easily $2500 lower, if you include the 6% tax savings, it was close to $4500 less. Now the freight ate up some of that, but even a 1-2 dollars a mile for delivery, you can easily go 1,000 mile to the mid west or New Hampshire and still be way ahead of the game.
