2014 Kioti C20S HST
Finally received my tractor back after it being at the dealer for 5 months for blowing smoke under load. Now it looks like its surging at idle and sounds like it's pinging. I don't remember either of these things occuring prior to it being in the shop.

Is this normal? Am I just being picky after having fought to get it fixed for 5 months?

Video of tach at idle: http://youtu.be/pIwq8iHqb_w

Crappy cell phone sound of pinging (hard to hear but its there): http://youtu.be/54u8q80rkvk

Thoughts?

My browser won't let me view the videos right now, what was the fixed issue? Unfortunately this to me sounds like one of the Kioti fuel injector problems. Others with more experience (and working web browsers) can give more info.

Well supposedly the dealer went back and forth with Kioti trying to just replace the engine because it would blow white smoke under load. They think they narrowed it down to the liner in the fuel tank coming free and pieces of it making it ways to the engine somehow. So they changed the tank and that didn't help, then they tore it down and cleaned/tested the injectors, inspected the cam, and head, put it back together and it was still having trouble. Then it was a timing issue which i'm guessing was something that happened after they tore it down. Now I have it back and it's jumping from back and forth from 700-1000rpm at idle every couple of secs and starts rough.

I don't know rather to bring it back at this point or bring it to a different dealer, because i'm unimpressed with the one locally and Kioti themselves have been a headache. The problem is the next nearest dealer is 100+ miles away.

Unless you want to pay for it, you just about have to take it back to the same dealer. And I would do so immediately.

If it's surging from 700-1000 at idle, that sounds like a starving for fuel problem. How does it run at higher rpms? As mentioned, I'd take it back to the same place being that they intially did the repair and they already have dealt with Kioti on the original issue.

RPMS are steady passed idle just putting around the yard, but with the weather I haven't even been able to test it under load to see if the original problem has been resolved 100%. I guess I'll take it back to them, I just don't find it acceptable for them to have had my tractor as long as I have, and still having issues. Unfortunately they are the only local kioti dealer.

Do you have hydraulic remotes? If so are they in the neutral position? Engaging the rear remotes with nothing attached will cause the symptoms that you describe.

What Hard Knocks says or what was the idle before you took it in? Maybe it's just set a little low? I've had to correct this problem after re-installing an injector pump I had rebuilt in my case I had to adjust the shut of solenoid because it wasn't pushing the fuel rod in far enough. But I would recommend before messing with it to have them send out a mechanic to adjust it if necessary.

Rear remote for the backhoe is in neutral.

It's been long enough to not really remember, but i want to say i remember it usually idling around 900-1000 steady, no surging, no tach bouncing etc.

I think everyone seems to agree it needs to go back to the dealer. New question is, is it normal for a dealer to take 5 months for a warranty issue? They gave me a loaner 4 months in, but i couldnt do much with it because the instrument cluster didn't work so I didn't want to run the risk of over revving.

NO. Totally unacceptable.

Diesel engines generally have a governor to prevent over revving. Wide open throttle shouldn't be an issue.
