I was loading my bucket with some rocks out of my garden last night when I noticed the bucket was slowly creeping down. After looking into it I found that the bucket will fall out of the fully rolled back position about 1 inch in 5 minutes. (That is with the bucket about 1/3 full of rocks.) I haven't called my dealer yet, but was wondering if anyone else had this probelm. I'm assuming the valve might be defective. Am I on the right track here? Thanks.

If the bucket blade is traveling only 1" in 5 minutes, then that is well with in spec for leak down. If the cylinders extend 1" in 5 minutes... that might not be in spec. It could be the cylinder(s) OR the valve.

Or a leak maybe?

I forgot to mention, that I don't see any leaks at all everything is dry, including the concrete underneath the tractor.

Any loader of any brand that I have used will 'leak down' slowly; it is pretty much the nature of hydraulic systems. Leave your FEL arms raised 6" off the ground at night and it is very likely that in the morning you will see your FEL arms have dropped to the ground.

You specifically are referring to 'rollback' and the speed of your bucket rolling forward seems to be excessive.

If you are seeing the 'rollback' function leak then please do a FEL arm test and raise your bucket so the bottom of the bucket is level with the top of the hood. Time how long it takes for the bucket to drop 6" or 12" it should leak down less than 1" per hour in my opinion. Others may suggest it could leak down faster. I honestly don't know what the 'spec' is, but if the loader is reasonably new and it leaked down at anything faster than 1" per hour I would be worried about it's long term ability. Again, this is not a brand specific issue.

Bob, Do you suggest testing this with the loader empty or with some load?

This is not uncommon at all. That is a small amount of leak down that you are experiencing. You will probablly find this happening to a small extent on any of the hydraulics such as backhoes also.

I want to update everyone on my situation. It seems that my estimate on time and travel was wrong. I tested the bucket, with it raised to about chest height and the bucket cylinders at about 2.5" out, the cylinders came out 3/4" in 45 minutes. After actually measuring this, I would thinmthat this amount of travel is well within acceptable limits. Thanks for your help and replys!!!
