Everything I've ever had, from Harleys to Hondas, when checking fluids the dipstick is screwed in. Just like a dipstick on a car or truck, fluid level is measured after being fully seated.

/ CK10 front axle dipstick, check level screwed in or not?
Can't answer the question, but not ALL things have the stick screwed down; either Kawa or Briggs & Stratton do not, have to reference it each time, because I can't remember which from one time to next. This is for engine oil, BTW. :confused3:

At the end of the day it really does not matter unless specified in the operator manual. If the oil is on the stick within the operating range when the axle is level side to side you are good.
