Looking for a finish mower to maintain my hilly property including mowing an adjacent field. Can my CK 2610 handle a 6 Finish Mower if I take my time and operate in lower gear? Thx!

Possibly, and you'll likely get a lot of different opinions on this. However, it's going to depend largely on your terrain, how high your grass is, and if you have a HST or gear tractor. I ran a 5 foot finish mower on my flat terrain with a 23 HP tractor (18 PTO) for several years, and I always thought it was a bit too much for the tractor at times. But, to each his own.

Personally, I'd stick with a 5 footer max to help keep your blade tip speed up and give a better cut. It should also help climbing hills. If you have a neighbor, family member, or friend that has a 6 footer, you might ask if they'd be willing to let you try it on your place.

I've got a 3510se, which is HST, so it's only got about 29 pto HP. Should be more than enough for a 6' mower you'd think....but my property is essentially the side of a 500 foot hill. I can mow uphill without issues in Low range, but in Mid I bog down constantly when going uphill. I have no issues with my 5 foot rotary cutter, even on tall summer growth. I got the finish mower used, for pretty cheap, and it works great on the flatter areas, it just takes a lot of HP, and isn't good on slopes. Wish I had waited for a deal on a 5 footer.

I'd strongly recommend going with a 5 foot mower for your 2610. You can get your work done a lot faster with a 5 foot, in mid range, vs a 6 foot in low range.

Maybe a Flail mower would work ?

I have two 6 ft finish mowers a big bee and a douglas. my 28 hp mahindra runs the big bee just fine but seems to struggle a little with the douglas. I would probably go 5 ft as others have suggested.

I use a 5' Flail on my CK30 and I reckon that is big enough for it. I believe a 6' would be a bit much for yours. The tractor gearing doesn't mean anything. Are you overloading your PTO?

I have a CK20 HST and it came with a 48" finish mower. After 6 yrs I wanted a bigger mower to spend less time mowing, so I kept an eye out and found what I thought was a 5' finish mower at a surplus auction and bought it for a really good price. Replaced an idler pulley and put a belt on it (found out it was a 6') and started using it, well my little tractor ran HOT (had a dirty radiator covered in another thread). During the short time I ran the 6' I found it scalped a number of places and for my terrain it was just to wide, plus it really did lug the engine. So I sold it and found a 5' finish mower that I have not had time to repair yet and test.

So I would echo a couple of other folks, depends on your terrain, hilly versus flat, 5' should work without issue 6' would probably work but will be more of a load on the tractor.

Here is my 2 cents. Had a B7800 (30 hp and 22 PTO hp) and I ran a 5' with relative ease. There were many times I wished I had a 6' so I could cover more ground. You would need HST in my opinion to run the 6' so you could adjust your speed according to the grass thickness. Your tractor is also much heavier than the B7800 (1800lbs soaking wet) which would make handling the 6' much easier. The 5' would be nothing for your tractor to run.

I also have a CK30HST and use a 6' finishing mower without issue, although it is on flat/level ground. Dutchy ReadyToCut.JPG

I Have a CK2610HST - have the FM2060 mower - tractor easily handles it - dealer suggested a FM2072 but I stayed with the 60 - right choice for me, I have lot of pine trees going between them, a 72 would be an issue - Kioti recommends the FM2060 as well for that unit - they are correct.....
