Last weekend I drove to Oregon and picked up a new Correll cider press that I got my wife for her birthday.
This is a really nice machine, made mostly out of Ash. It has a 1/3 HP motor that runs the shredder, and a hand screw press. They are kind of expensive, and there is a 9 month waiting list. I ordered mine in January! Bob told me that an article is about to come out about his presses in Forbes magazine, so that will probably lengthen his lead time. He makes several sizes, and will customize if you need.
So far, we have only had enough apples for one pressing, but we got more than a gallon from less than a full basket. It was a lot faster than the way my wife made cider before - grinding the apples in the blender and pressing with a potato masher!
I have attached a pic that shows the chicken about to sample the results!
Now I just need to figure a way to attach this to the PTO...
